AUNCE (pronounced Aunts/Arnts) creates bold, genre-defying music that challenges expectations and embraces sonic experimentation. Confrontational rhythms and visceral synths blend with intimate vocals, creating ethereal soundscapes that are both urban and otherworldly. Her work blurs the boundaries of pop, electronica, and sonic art, while exploring themes of nature, social issues, and human behavior. AUNCE’s music invites listeners into a world where genres fade, and sound becomes a journey and an experience.

Driven by an insatiable love of sound and its power to connect us, AUNCE seeks to express the inexpressible and explore the textures and feelings of both known and unknown worlds. As one of the most exciting emerging voices in genre-defying music, she continues to captivate listeners and collaborators alike.

Her debut tracks released in late 2024 and in January 2025 Beep Beep and Evergreen have garnered critical acclaim, celebrated for its creativity and described as “sonically innovative” and “philosophically provocative.” Hailed as “boundary-pushing”, “genius”, and “enchanting”, these debut’s have exemplified AUNCE’s signature duality—grounded yet ethereal, visceral yet introspective—showcasing the bold artistry that defines her sound.

NEW single - silver sun

Silver Sun was one of those rare songs that floated out in little over an hour. It arrived quite fully formed after experiencing the powerful atmosphere of a place called Ruapuke – a beach close to the coastal town of Raglan on the West Coast of the North Island of Aotearoa, NZ. The light there was distinctly special - I remember it vividly as a silver, bright white light, contrasted against its black sand and lush coastal flora.

I don’t usually write “love songs”, but at the time of writing Silver Sun I was moving through a shift in understanding love - as something that is and will always be part of us, or is us. Sometimes, it gets lost and buried beneath the noise and conditioning of life. Things, people, places come into our life and awareness that remind us of this love. I’m probably not alone in admitting that int he past I have closed it down, pushed it away, denied it. But around the time of writing, I was overwhelmed with a want to generate more and more of it. And it grows like a very warm light from within. So, the song is a love song written to anything we truly love – oneself, a place, another - and a reflection on how generating love transforms us, our bonds with those people, things and places around us, and changes our perception of our world.

It is also a reminder for me of the power of place and nature for inspiring and enabling us to have these transformative reflections. For this reason I have chosen to gift royalties to Earth Percent, and to organisations in Ruapuke and Waikato, Aotearoa that are doing important conservation work to take care of this powerful coastline.

This song is dedicated to my brother, who is and always will be, in my music.

VIDEO

I’ve always loved contemporary dance and movement, and so I asked one of my favourite dance and film companies from Aotearoa - Threading Frames - to create a video that encapsulated the themes of the song. I then called upon the talent of celebrated London based digital artist Barney McCann to translate the natural forces in the video and themes of the song to a digital language using Python, Touch Designer and After Effects.

Lyrics:

Do you remember when time stood still for us

In the cold water of the setting sun

I remember the taste of salt on your lips

As the silver sun silhouetted us in bliss

And oh, I’ve found this light

How did I find this light

The cold breeze reminds me of the sharp edge of new love

Like i’m standing on a tightrope above mystery and loss

Then the undertow draws me back into your arms

Back to the stillness and the fire deep in my bones

And oh, I’ve found this light

How did I find this light
